A macrophage hunts a bacterium in a ~5-second loop. Chemotaxis steers the amoeboid cell toward its prey; as it closes it throws out pseudopods — reaching metaball lobes that fan around the rod and then draw shut, swallowing it into a phagosome (a dark vacuole that briefly digests it) before a fresh target spawns and the hunt restarts.
