The last idea on the list watches a star die from behind a window. A supernova detonates in the distance — core flash, expanding shock shell, radial filaments of ejecta — and between it and you stands a grid of observation-deck glass panels. The shockwave reaches each pane in turn, and for the moment it passes through, that pane’s refractive index spikes: the blast behind it smears and tears into chromatic fringes while the pane flares at its edges. Then the wave moves on and the pane keeps the damage — a web of cracks fades in and stays until the star detonates again.
