#178Saturn's Rings
Saturn rendered analytically in one fragment pass: an oblate, banded globe circled by a broad ring system of many concentric ringlets whose density falls into a dark Cassini division and a thin Encke gap. A ray/ellipsoid intersection draws the pale-gold globe while a ray/plane intersection paints the rings, correctly sorted so the near arc passes in front of the planet and the far arc slips behind it. The planet casts its umbral shadow across the far rings, and the rings drape a banded shadow back onto the globe. The view slowly orbits on its own; scrolling opens and closes the ring tilt, a press highlights the Cassini gap, and the pointer swings the camera.
